Besides providing geological services, Geo5 has intensively engaged itself in software development during the last few years. The focus lies on developing software plug-ins to make processing and interpretation of geophysical data more efficient and also to improve the validity of the interpretation.
The plug-ins are primarily used by companies of the petroleum industry and firms concerned with Geothermics. Companies around the world increasingly count on intelligent software-based tools, especially in hydrocarbon exploration. These tools improve the significance of the prognosis and offer efficient data processing.
At the current time there are only a few satisfactory and recognized software solutions on the market which can be used for the geological interpretation of geophysical data. Two internationally recognized software solutions are the programs Schlumberger's Petrel and OpendTect by dGB Earth Sciences. Both software suppliers not only distribute their own platform but also offer additional tools and features such as plug-ins via webstores such as "Ocean Store" by Schlumberger.
Within research projects Geo5 develops advanced methods and algorithms for the analysis of seismic data.
Archives around the world contain large amounts of seismic reflection data that are largely inaccessible for geoscientific research because they are stored on outdated media. Despite the age of these data, they often have great potential for modern research. Often, seismic reflection data in these archives are only available on paper.
GeoScan is a software solution from Geo5 GmbH for digitizing geophysical data. The previously scanned data from the archives are converted into the open, digital industry format SEG-Y.
FracTex is a plugin for OpendTect and Petrel. It computes grey level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) based attributes in different directions and compares these results. Based on that comparison a factor for seismic anisotropy is computed and the azimuth of the direction with most variability in seismic character is determined. This information can then be correlated with seismic facies changes or fracturing.
A user manual is available for the Petrel version.
